OK! I believe my story is pretty similar to everyone elses but here it goes. I came with my family from Colombia eight years ago. I was 16 years old and with no idea of what I was about to go through. I finished high school in the top ten students of a class of more than 150 students. National and local honors were awarded and everyone except my family thought that I was going to the top once done with college. I had to reject more than five scholarships that could have covered all my education and living expenses but because I didn't have a "legal" status someone else benefited from it. I started in my local community college and two years later, after graduation I transfered to a 4-year college. I graduated 2 1/2 years later again, with different job offers and internships opportunities but since I don't have a social security number I cannot be included in their payroll. Here I am one year later after graduation, "working" in a construction company answering their phones, with a double-majored Bachelor's degree from an acredited institution on my back. I am full of dreams, but sometimes I even think of moving to Canada or something so I can start all over again but it is very expensive and I would leave my family behind with the possibility of never see them again. Going back to Colombia is not an option, although I would love to go back to my roots and see all the people and things that I left behind... I hope the Dream Act passes otherwise many will be wasted.

Hey my testimony is in my blog:

http://dreamactadvocate.blogspot.com/

I am trying to adjust through 245i (I am a derivative beneficiary) but of course I support the DREAM Act for those who don't have a way out of this nightmare.

Born 1987, in 1989 1 month before turning 2 years old I came to the states. Clearly with no idea of what was to happen. FAST FWD: about 19 years later, failed cases, crooked attorneys, and a lot of bad luck lead to where i am now. A high school graduate (honors), no college and a job that gets me by on a week to week basis. They call us criminals, If a parent brings a 1 year old to a murder scene, is the child held accountable and pays for the punishment as well in this country? I did'nt think so.

My mother brought me to California at the age of eight. I knew at that time that I was illegal, but I never thought of the future. I was only thinking to be my mother's side and hope that she would make this bad thing go away.

Then, in middle school that's when it hit me. Students were allowed to go to Europe to learn. But unfortunately I couldn't go. I met all the requirements but the least important one for the regular folks was the one I couldn't meet. After that, I just became very negative. What was the point of succeeding school if you can't use it?

By high school, everyone was eager to get their driver's license and I would want them to stop talking about it. It angered me that I would get left out and that people would question me on why I couldn't get one. I was scared and quite embarrassed to say why I couldn't do certain things.

By senior year, a counselor came by talking about scholarships and grants and how important it was to fill out an application for FAFSA. For that hour I felt so empty because I knew I had no hope.

Now, I'm attending a community college and afraid of going to a four year university. The tuition, the textbooks and transportation are key factors why I am so afraid. I do not want to see my mother to struggle, to come home late and to have back pain just so I can get a degree for nothing.

Sometimes I want to run back to Mexico, to improve my Spanish and to move to Spain for a decent career. But I cannot do that, I already have a life here. I would not want to start a new one and feel miserable because I do not have my loved ones by my side. Most importantly I would not want to leave my mother behind.

There are some many things we can do but are oh so limited.

They brought you here with hopes and promises for a better life, hoping for the American dream-come-true.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that things were so bad that they would sacrifice their dignity to work unappreciated in demeaning jobs for too little pay, would battle racism and language barriers and would live their lives in constant fear of deportation in hopes that life will be better for you than it was for them.
I’m sorry that you worked this hard and got this far and have to stop short of your potential simply because, though you’re every bit as patriotic as I am, though you’re every bit as hardworking and deserving, you’re not are not a “US Citizen.”
Being one of the richest countries in the world doesn’t mean that we use our resources efficiently and allocate them fairly or that we even agree on what fair means. People argue that positions at American companies and seats in American Universities should be reserved for Americans, and I’m not sure that I can argue against that. But you’ve grown up here, gone to school here, lived your life here. Been shaped by American culture and American ideals. Doesn’t this make you as American as I am?
I’m sorry that I don’t have an answer.

If you are waiting to have the dream act passed, I know you want to help in some way. We are currently working on a film that will spread awareness of the dream act. It will go into theaters across the country. We need dreamers' support to make it happen!

One dollar can hardly buy you anything anymore. However, one dollar can get us one step closer to showing the country what it is like for us dreamers. Visit kickstarter.com and search the dream act. Even one dollar will be what you can give to help our future!

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own weblog and was curious what all is required to get setup? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty
penny? I'm not very web savvy so I'm not 100% certain. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
